viac o Krone

Krone is housed in a renovated Renaissance manor in the center of the small town of Svätý Jur, nestled in the Little Carpathians. Thanks to its sensitive restoration, it stands as one of the landmarks in the town’s historical preservation zone. Despite its historical charm, it is only about a fifteen-minute drive from the bustling center of Bratislava.

Our wine list exclusively features wines from Svätý Jur, sourced from local cellars. You can enjoy these wines anywhere at Krone, but they taste best in our historic cellar, which is our pride and joy. This space is ideal for hosting corporate parties, family gatherings, and smaller weddings.

Guests also have access to parking directly in the courtyard. The entire property offers a stable Wi-Fi network, and all rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, satellite TV, an electric kettle, and most rooms also feature air conditioning.

Story

Dear Guest,

Allow us to share with you the story of the house and the town in which you are about to stay.

Krone is located in a renovated noble manor in the center of the ancient town of Svätý Jur, known both locally and internationally as the “Slovak Tuscany.” The first written records of this house date back to the 16th century, though its walls surely remember even earlier times. Over the years, the house has seen many owners and residents, serving various purposes.

In the rear part of the house, where our guesthouse now resides, the tenants of the owner once lived. The entire building was divided into several apartments, home to numerous families. The courtyard was always lively with neighborhood festivities, children’s games, and perhaps even the occasional minor squabble. In the ancient cellar, the owner stored and produced wine or preserved food. The owner himself lived in the front part of the house, with his family residing upstairs, while the ground floor was used for his business. Over the centuries, it served as a grocery store, a tavern, and later as a butcher shop.

Just as this house was always bustling with activity, so too was life in the town. Winemakers competed with craftsmen to see who could best and most widely spread the fame of St. George’s emblem. In the end, history favored the liquid gold. The wine reached as far as the Polish royal court, with exports to Krakow becoming the most important livelihood for many of the town’s inhabitants over the centuries. The wine also traveled beyond the Danube and the Morava River. It was joyfully tasted by all—both the wealthy and the nobility—who praised its excellent taste and quality.

It’s no wonder that Svätý Jur attracted, and even gave birth to, many notable figures. Who wouldn’t thrive under the sunny slopes of the Little Carpathians? Over the centuries, scientists, adventurers, and even artists have found themselves in this town, either born here or brought by fate. Some left significant marks, while others left only small traces of their presence in Svätý Jur.

We decided to honor these individuals at Krone. All of them share a connection to the town of Svätý Jur, and now also to the spaces of our guesthouse. Each room is dedicated to one of these personalities. Through this, we wish to pay tribute to them—not with excessive glory or pathos, as they were, after all, people of flesh and blood. So, dear traveler, if this aspect of Krone interests you further, feel free to saddle up your steed and visit us in the town of St. George.

Weddings

At Krone, we are capable of organizing a small wedding reception for up to 40 guests.
